(It Feels Like) Coming Home
It is actually quite difficult to
pick out one highlight after such a wonderful week in Liverpool.
One highlight definitively was the excursion group itself. I made many new
friends and we had much fun, especially in the evenings. Liverpool
offers a superb nightlife for students.
However, the main reason for going
to Liverpool this year was the fact that it is
the European Capital of Culture 2008 – and this is so for a good reason. Liverpool is much more than The Beatles and football.
There are the Albert Docks, churches and museums, just to mention a few things.
Furthermore, the city is changing rapidly. There are construction works
everywhere and it is wonderful to see how the whole city is flourishing again
after having seen hard times in the 1970s and 1980s.
Having spent four months in
Liverpool in 2006, I simply love this city – although Phil coming from Manchester may see things
slightly different. Maybe our gift has changed his mind?!?
So, my personal highlight was to
come back to this city and to see what progress has been made in the two years
of my absence. Entering Liverpool really felt
to me like coming home and I am looking forward to going back sometime.
